Going away on a vacation should be a relaxing, stress-free event. Unfortunately, it’s common to get to your prized destination only to find that you’ve accidentally packed away a cold or, even worse, a flu. It can destroy your entire carefully-booked vacation and make you regret going in the first place.
However, staying healthy before (and while) you travel is not as difficult as you’d think.
Slow down and breathe
Instead of simply putting the pedal to the metal when you’re preparing for your trip, try to take it easy. Yes, seriously. As mentioned in Well + Good’s article, “Never Spend Another Vacation Sick Thanks To These 6 Health-Boosting Lifestyle Tips”, you get sick because you’re running your body ragged trying to get ready for the trip itself.
Be realistic in your priorities
When you’re preparing for your trip, be realistic in the pace that you set as well as the goals that you’re trying to achieve before you go. For example:
- Don’t pack the night before. Pick away at it, a bit at a time.
- Don’t try to get 1 000 tasks done at work before you go. You won’t, and it’ll stress you out.
- Prioritize sleep before you leave.
