There are so many endless posts out there about food prep and how amazing it is. The real talk version is that it isn’t going to be as pretty as it sounds, but it’s going to be a whole lot more practical than you’re expecting!

It’s all about you

When you’re looking at getting into food prep for the first time, you’ll want to be honest about your goals. As mentioned in Thrillist’s article, “How to Meal Plan Like a Real Person, Not an Influencer”, it’s all about making a list of food prep staples that you’ll actually eat. This will come from working with recipes that you know you love, or want to try. Once you’ve got that sorted out, you can focus on the following:

  • Prep one or two meals at a time at first: Don’t try to prep for a month’s worth of meals. It’ll get overwhelming and you’ll hate it!
  • Plan your meals according to what will freeze best: Spaghetti sauce freezes much better, taste and nutrition-wise, than eggs or salad. So, plan your meals with salad and eggs first, and push spaghetti later!
  • Plan your prep time: As in, get your calendar out and literally schedule it in. Once you start, you can’t stop halfway! Block out a period of time and use it wisely.

While it may feel stressful, meal prepping and planning is going to be so much more productive when you take the beauty out of it. Looking for seconds? Read more in the original post here!
