Decks are exposed to all kinds of weather conditions. When it rains, water doesn’t run off as it does on the roof or on the siding. This leaves the wood deck needing regular maintenance every 1 to 3 years, according to The Spruce’s Bob Formisano.
You may be aware that deck maintenance involves 3 main tasks: power washing, sanding
Stain your deck in 7 simple steps
- Begin with the handrail
- Stain the posts and horizontal members
- Stain under the handrail
- Protect the surface with a canvas drop cloth
- Stain the surface using a pad applicator
- Plan out your exit
- Clean your tools
Once your project is completed, wait at least 24 hours to allow your deck to dry fully. You’ll have a beautiful looking patio for the next 1 to 3 years.
