Without noticing it, we use words that may cause people to disengage from the conversation. We don’t pay attention to these words because we say them countless times every day. These words can seriously affect our relationships with family, friends and colleagues alike.

Most of us don’t notice these filthy little words – they just sneak up on us. The key is to get in the habit of catching yourself ‘in the middle of the act’ until you’ve trained your brain to not say them.

 

And the culprits are…

Inc. Magazine has identified three culprits to be especially aware of. Three very short, but often damaging words:

  • “but”, and its ally “if only”;
  • “try”;
  • “can’t”.
